Vintage-looking, dream-like textures can open up a whole new world in your photography. However, there is much, much more to working with textures than simply merging them with an image via Photoshop. In this gorgeous new guide from texture guru Sarah Gardner, you'll learn everything there is to know about how to maximize the potential of these exciting tools. In addition to hundreds of beautiful example images, this book is also packed with practical advice on what makes a good texture, and how and when to use them. How an image is initially captured and processed has a significant impact on the effect a texture will have, so you'll also learn what to consider when composing and shooting (rather than simply relying on post-processing) and how to use lighting and background considerations effectively for later work with textures. Workshop notes and a supplemental website will help you put Sarah's techniques into practice immediately. Beautiful enough to sit on your coffee table yet practical enough to store near your computer, this book will show you everything you need to know to get that coveted vintage-feel in your images, whether you're a casual family snapper or a seasoned professional.

Thom Rouse seems to have an unbridled artistic sensibility. In this book, he offers up for review sixty of his favorite fine-art images. Rouse takes photographers behind the scenes of his creative process, showing the starting point—always a portrait, captured by him—and then details the Photoshop tools and techniques he used and, sometimes, some “accessory” images that he adds into the mix, to create a dramatically different work of art. While the components and tone of each image vary from page to page, Rouse strictly maintains that his creative process is based on the idea that each work of art must, at its core, remain photographic. In other words, his fine-art works are enhanced, stylized portraits that transcend the limits typically self-imposed by portrait artists. His goal in creating the book is to educate and inspire other photographers—or, in the words of the artist—to “show you something you haven’t seen before.” This book features a collection of beautiful portraits that collide with a strange collections of elements—one portrait, entitled Shhhh, is coupled with ornamental wooden fish, goose wings, and parts of an aircraft; another, called Andromeda, uses complex Photoshop blending techniques and texture layers to create a Gustav Klimt-inspired feel in the photograph—to create a storytelling piece that elevates the portrait to a fine art category. On page after page, you’ll discover how Rouse conceptualized the featured work of art, the steps he took to bring the concept to life, and the curiously beautiful artistic portrait result.

In her long career as Product Evangelist for Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, Julieanne Kost has taught thousands of digital photographers how to get the most out of Adobe's digital imaging software, in seminars, presentations, and blog posts ranging from nuts-and-bolts tips and tricks to inspirational tutorials on creating sophisticated artistic effects. As Lightroom has grown into the premier image organization and editing tool for photographers, she is often asked by her students and other fans to outline her own Lightroom workflow in a book. This is that book! Using her own stunning images as the starting point, Julieanne shares her working methods with the reader, starting from the initial idea for a photo project, continuing through planning and executing the shoots, and spending the bulk of the time describing the post-capture workflow: organizing the images in Lightroom, performing basic and advanced edits, off-loading images to Photoshop for special purposes, then packaging the project for publication and distribution as a book, slideshow, or web site. Readers will reap the benefit of Julieanne's long and deep experience with both Lightroom and Photoshop as well as her refined artist's sensibility. The book deftly combines practical information about working with the camera and computer, but under Julieanne's guidance the practical is always presented in the service of maintaining and supporting the photographer's vision for the overall project. There are other books on using Lightroom to catalog and edit images, but they tend to be general-purpose manuals that cover any and all types of images and uses. This book focuses on those techniques and workflows that Julieanne finds most useful for her own photographic projects; in this case a series of images shot from the window of a moving car going through a variety of landscapes at different times of the year. 3d Game Textures

Size: 15,27 MB
Format: PDF, Docs

A broadly enhanced new edition of Luke Ahearn's cornerstone game art book "3D Game Textures" is here. When digital art software was in its infancy, most digital art, especially vector art, was textureless. With the advance in software, it is now possible to incorporate texture into most types of digital art. However, if the artists cannot build their own textures, they are limited to using commercial textures. In this enhanced 3rd edition of Luke Ahearn's gem of a book, not only does Luke teach you how to create your own unique textures, he also teaches how to create shaders (the visual effects - reflections, refractions, opacity - that make textures come to life) and materials (collections of shaders that fill well together to map to a particular scene or environment). You can now expand your skill set immeasurably, and create more compelling, varied art work from scratch. Unlike anything on the market, this book provides an in-depth guide to game textures, shaders and materials- with hundreds of high-quality examples. The companion website includes: demo versions of relevant software; resource images; all images from the book.
