LEARN THE PRINCIPLES OF CLINICAL INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN JUST THIRTY DAYS Infectious Diseases: A Clinical Short COURSE is a concise overview of this important field designed to help the busy physician, medical student, nurse practitioner, and physician assistant to understand, diagnose, and treat common infectious diseases. This unique self-instruction book is organized by system/region as opposed to pathogens—simulating how common pathogens and disorders would be encountered in rounds or in practice. By indicating the number of days that should be allotted to the study of each chapter, the author has created a schedule for completion of each lesson. A wide array of tables that summarize the methods of clinical assessment, anti-infective agent doses, and drug toxicities--facts that do not require memorization, but do need to be referred to when caring for patients--facilitate this condensed learning schedule. There is no better resource for learning to associate pathogens with the corresponding impact on patients than Infectious Diseases. FEATURES Key Points summarize the most important facts when managing each infection and facilitate board review Guiding Questions begin each chapter An estimate of the potential severity of each disease gives you a sense of how quickly you should initiate treatment Numerous case examples highlight real-world clinical application of the content Dozens of color plates depict major pathogens All chapters have been updated to reflect the most current treatment and diagnostic guidelines from the Infectious Diseases Society of America NEW! Antibiograms for each major antibiotic class provide a visual depiction of the spectrum of each individual antibiotic; a table listing the most commonly used outpatient antibiotics and their dosing; and much more

These notes illustrate the basic elements for analysis and design of linear control systems. With 15 chapters and an appendix of 4 sections the notes start from the notion of mathematical model (system), explaining its important role in the study of a phenomenon and how linear models can arise in practice. Through the time and Laplace analysis the behaviour of a linear model is studied in detail. The basic notions of stability, steady-state and transient response and structural properties give a deep insight in the study of the behavior of an abstract model. In this first part of the notes, the emphasis has been put on the analysis of the properties of a linear system. In the second part of these notes the basic model interconnections are studied, in particular the feedback interconnection and its importance in the design of control systems. Different design methodologies (dynamics assignment, root locus, tracking and disturbance compensation) are illustrated in detail with the support of useful criteria (Nyquist criterion, Routh table) and mathematical tools. In the appendix the necessary mathematical tools are reviewed. The arguments are supported by many examples and figures.

Netter’s Atlas of Neuroscience, by David L. Felten and Anil N. Shetty, is an atlas and textbook that combines nearly 400 illustrations and radiologic images highlighting key neuroanatomical concepts and clinical correlations with updated information that reflects our current understanding of the nervous system. It offers user-friendly coverage in three parts-an overview of the nervous system, regional neuroscience, and systemic neuroscience- that enable you to review complex neural structures and systems from different contexts. Online access to Student Consult- where you’ll find videos of imaging sequences and more- further enhances your study and helps to prepare you for exams. Presents nearly 400 exquisite Netter and Netter-style illustrations that highlight key neuroscience concepts and clinical correlations, providing you with a quick and memorable overview of anatomy, function, and clinical relevance. Provides concise text for fast, “at-a-glance guidance. Features a regional organization of the peripheral nervous system, spinal cord, brain stem and cerebellum, and forebrain...and a systemic organization of the sensory motor systems, motor systems (including cerebellum and basal ganglia), and limbic/hypothalmic/autonomic systems...that makes reference easier and more efficient. Features high-quality imaging—high-resolution MRI in coronal and axial (horizontal) planes and brain stem cross-sections—as well MR angiography and venography and classical arteriography—for an enhanced perspective of intricacies of the nervous system. Presents updated information and new figures that reflect the current understanding of the neural components and supportive tissue, regions, and systems of the brain, spinal cord, and periphery, to ensure that you have the latest knowledge. “If any man wish to write in a clear style, let him frst be clear in his thoughts. ” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe You may ask why anyone would want to write yet another book about scientifc writing. Tere are many books on the subject, some more useful than others, and the abundance of literature on this topic may confuse rather than guide. I felt that this book was necessary for several reasons. During the past years, I have learnt much about the needs of scientifc communicators, both through my personal experience as a pharmacologist and, later, through teaching scientifc writing at universities, pharmaceutical companies, and other institutions. In today’s busy world, guidance on scientifc writing must be focused and to the point. Our constraints no longer permit the ti- consuming search for the “correct” word or formulation. Moreover, the speed by which we produce a manuscript has become increasingly important, be it in academia or the pharmaceutical industry. Scientists ofen fnd it difcult to accept that their professional success essentially depends on their skill and efciency to communicate their research results. Without any doubt, the rapid exchange of pertinent information is critical to scientifc advancement and should therefore be regarded with due respect. A second, perhaps even more important reason for writing this book is my personal concern for everyone challenged to write high-quality texts in a language that is not his or her native tongue.
