Italy in 2025 is on the brink of collapse: borders are closed, banks withhold money, armed gangs of drug-fuelled youths roam the countryside. Leonardo was a well-known writer and academic before a sex scandal ended his marriage and career. He takes refuge in his remote vineyard home, but nowhere is safe with society at the tipping point of anarchy. His ex-wife entrusts him with his daughter, Lucia, and another child by her second marriage. But when their home is ransacked, they see no choice but to try to cross to France. Sleeping rough and scavenging as best they can, they face horror and violence unlike any they have encountered before. Leonardo will come to understand that if he is to bring the children to safety he must confront evil head on and, in doing so, shed every trace of his former self.

A brilliant new translation of one of Simenon's best loved masterpieces. 'A certain furtive, almost shameful emotion ... disturbed him whenever he saw a train go by, a night train especially, its blinds drawn down on the mystery of its passengers' Kees Popinga is a respectable Dutch citizen and family man. Then he discovers that his boss has bankrupted the shipping firm he works for - and something snaps. Kees used to watch the trains go by to exciting destinations. Now, on some dark impulse, he boards one at random, and begins a new life of recklessness and violence. This chilling portrayal of a man who breaks from society and goes on the run asks who we are, and what we are capable of. 'Classic Simenon ... extraordinary in its evocative power' Independent 'What emerges is the bare human animal' John Gray 'Read him at your peril, avoid him at your loss' Sunday Times

Three women. They have nothing in common. They are different ages, come from different background, and lead drastically different lives. The only thing that binds them together is their red hair—and that each of them has been targeted for murder. When each 'Red' receives a chilling letter in the mail from a killer known only as the Wolf, their lives are upended as they spend every waking moment in the fear that their lives could be snuffed out at any moment. The Wolf is stalking them, biding his time, waiting for the perfect moment to complete his master plan. Yet the one thing this cunning and devious killer didn't plan for is the Reds discovering each other. The three women, using clues left by the Wolf, manage to band together in the hopes of protecting one another from this deadly predator. With law enforcement turning their backs on the Reds, their only hope for survival is to turn the tables, for the prey to become the predators. In a riveting game of cat-and-mouse, the Reds must track down the Wolf himself--before he silences each of them forever.

Part satire, part visionary epic, part intellectual tour de force, The Man Without Qualities is a work of immeasurable importance. "One of the towering achievements of the European novel" Observer "Immensely rich and therapeutic, bristling with wit and a sly humour" Sunday Telegraph It is 1913, and Viennese high society is gripped by a mission to find an appropriate way of celebrating the seventieth jubilee of the accession of Emperor Franz Josef. But as the aristocracy tries to salvage something illustrious out of the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the ordinary Viennese world is beginning to show signs of more serious rebellion. Caught in the middle of this social labyrinth is Ulrich: youngish, rich, an ex-soldier, seducer and scientist. Unable to deceive himself that the jumble of attributes and values that his world has bestowed on him amounts to anything so innate as a 'character', he is effectively a man 'without qualities', a brilliant, detached observer of the spinning, racing society around him.
