The title of this book is a pun on the use of the preposition “onto” with the aim of recalling “Ontology”, the term commonly adopted in the computer science community to indicate the study of the formal specification for organizing knowledge. In the field of knowledge engineering, Ontologies are used for modeling concepts and relationships on some domain. The year 2013 celebrates the twentieth anniversary of the World Wide Web. The simple network of hypermedia has transformed the world of communications with enormous implications on the social relationships. However, traditional World Wide Web is currently experiencing a challenging evolution toward the Internet of Things (IoT), today feasible thanks to the integration of pervasive technologies capable of sensing the environment. The most important contribution of IoT regards the possibility of enabling more efficient machine-to-machine cooperation. To such aim, ontologies represent the most suitable tool to enable transfer and comprehension of information among computer applications, even those designed and developed by unrelated people in different places. This book proposes a collection of contributions illustrating different applications following these directions and that are the outcomes of real experiences developed in the context of research projects.

The new computing environment enabled by advances in service oriented arc- tectures, mashups, and cloud computing will consist of service spaces comprising data, applications, infrastructure resources distributed over the Web. This envir- ment embraces a holistic paradigm in which users, services, and resources establish on-demand interactions, possibly in real-time, to realise useful experiences. Such interactions obtain relevant services that are targeted to the time and place of the user requesting the service and to the device used to access it. The bene?t of such environment originates from the added value generated by the possible interactions in a large scale rather than by the capabilities of its individual components se- rately. This offers tremendous automation opportunities in a variety of application domains including execution of forecasting, of?ce tasks, travel support, intelligent information gathering and analysis, environment monitoring, healthcare, e-business, community based systems, e-science and e-government. A key feature of this environment is the ability to dynamically compose services to realise user tasks. While recent advances in service discovery, composition and Semantic Web technologies contribute necessary ?rst steps to facilitate this task, the bene?ts of composition are still limited to take advantages of large-scale ubiq- tous environments. The main stream composition techniques and technologies rely on human understanding and manual programming to compose and aggregate s- vices. Recent advances improve composition by leveraging search technologies and ?ow-based composition languages as in mashups and process-centric service c- position.

Computer and Information Technology (CIT) are now involved in governmental, industrial, and business domains more than ever. Thus, it is important for CIT personnel to continue academic research to improve technology and its adoption to modern applications. The up-to-date research and technologies must be distributed to researchers and CIT community continuously to aid future development. The 10th International Conference on Computing and Information Technology (IC 2 IT2014) organized by King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) and partners provides an exchange of the state of the art and future developments in the two key areas of this process: Computer Networking and Data Mining. Behind the background of the foundation of ASEAN, it becomes clear that efficient languages, business principles and communication methods need to be adapted, unified and especially optimized to gain a maximum benefit to the users and customers of future IT systems.

Service orientation is emerging nowadays at multiple organizational levels in enterprise business, and it leverages technology in response to the growing need for greater business integration, flexibility and agility of manufacturing enterprises. The Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) analysed throughout the book represents a technical architecture, a business modelling concept, a type of infrastructure, an integration source and a new way of viewing units of automation within the enterprise. The primary goal of SOA is to align the business world with the world of information technology in a way that makes both more effective. The service value creation model at enterprise level consists of using a Service Component Architecture for business process applications, based on entities which handle services. In this view a service is a piece of software encapsulating the business/control logic or resource functionality of an enterprise entity that exhibits an individual competence and responds to a specific request to fulfil a local (operation) or global objective (batch production). The value creation model is based on a 2-stage approach: • Agentification: complex manufacturing processes are split in services provided by informational agents which are discovered, accessed and executed. This leads to a modular, reusable, agile and easy integrate integration. • Holonification: holons link the material flow and physical entities of the manufacturing processes with the informational part (IT services realized by distributed intelligence) facilitating thus traceability the developing of flexible control systems. This book gathers contributions from scientists, researchers and industrialists on concepts, methods, frameworks and implementing issues addressing trends in the service orientation of control technology and management applied to manufacturing enterprise. This book gathers contributions from scientists, researchers and industrialists on concepts, methods, frameworks and implementing issues addressing trends in the service orientation of control technology and management applied to manufacturing enterprise.

This volume contains the proceedings of CloudCom 2009, the First Inter- tional Conference on Cloud Computing. The conference was held in Beijing, China, during December 1–4, 2009, and was the ?rst in a series initiated by the Cloud Computing Association (www.cloudcom.org). The Cloud Computing Association was founded in 2009 by Chunming Rong, Martin Gilje Jaatun, and Frode Eika Sandnes. This ?rst conference was organized by the Beijing Ji- tong University, Chinese Institute of Electronics, and Wuhan University, and co-organized by Huazhong University of Science and Technology, South China Normal University, and Sun Yat-sen University. Ever since the inception of the Internet, a “Cloud” has been used as a metaphor for a network-accessible infrastructure (e.g., data storage, computing hardware, or entire networks) which is hidden from users. To some, the concept of cloud computing may seem like a throwback to the days of big mainframe computers, but we believe that cloud computing makes data truly mobile, - lowing a user to access services anywhere, anytime, with any Internet browser. In cloud computing, IT-related capabilities are provided as services, accessible without requiring control of, or even knowledge of, the underlying technology. Cloud computing provides dynamic scalability of services and computing power, and although many mature technologies are used as components in cloud c- puting, there are still many unresolved and open problems.
