Full of zest and flair, Jessen's poems map constellations of desire, loss and longing. Riffing on the future (which isn't what it used to be), dating apps, despair, Bonnie Tyler, Taylor Swift and the lesbian bachelorette, they are set in interstellar queer utopias, maternity wards and single beds. Jessen's edgy, scintillating poems urge us all to be a 'little gay' and to celebrate existence inall its multiplicity. These are poems of sly surprises, radical vulnerability, dark-edged humour and vast originality that gently encourage readers to acknowledge past traumas while forging ahead to embrace the future. Following Jessen's award-winning verse novel, Gap,this collection confirms her as a major talent of her generation.

Richard Green wakes in the distant future; the cryogenic suspension he and his wife Helen opted for seems to have worked. He finds his body rejuvenated, his mind augmented, and a society that seems to be utopian. Everything seems perfect, except one thing - he can't find Helen. His attempts to find her, among the rest of what have become known as Cryogens, are being deliberately frustrated. Worse still, he uncovers evidence of a plot to destroy all Cryogens. After encountering a group of protesters it becomes obvious that the only chance of finding what's happened to her is to help them, and that's when he finds himself at the centre of a struggle that spans more than one Earth and threatens his very existence. But if putting his life on the line is the only way he can find out what's happened to Helen, that's what he's prepared to do. In a world full of immortals, someone has to die

During the time I was dealing with my mother and her reactions to Mikes apparent abuse of me no one ever knew I had been victimized again, several times. The boyfriends at the time of my aunt Camille and Kim had been told of my abuse and apparently thought it was a good idea to try also. A part of me blamed my aunts for telling my secrets. I never spoke to anyone of these secrets out of fear of loosing more family. I know youre probably reading this wondering why I didnt tell anyone, well if you read the rest of this book I would think you could understand. I didnt want to mess up anyone elses home or happiness. I mean these were my aunts, the very people who were helping me through it all at the time. I didnt think holding on to those secrets affected my life much but in the summer of 2010 I decided to release this burden. I told Camille of what her boyfriend had done to me crying through my entire confession. I begged her not to be mad at me and prayed this secret wouldnt affect our relationship; after all we have become really close over the years. Camille couldnt believe what I was saying although she wasnt in denial, she had lots of questions and she began to cry also. She wanted to know if any of her other boyfriends had tried anything with me or to me and I told her no. Telling her the role her boyfriend played was like lifting a forty pound weight off my shoulders. Until this day I have not yet told Kim of what her boyfriend had done. He is actually responsible for taking my virginity. I figure it took me more that twenty years to tell Camille and although I will tell Kim, itll just take me more time to do so.

The authors provide an introduction to the series of interviews as well as a detailed history of the community. A chronology, a map of Dijon, and photos of many interviewees are included. The book also provides an update on recent events in the community, a suggested reading list, and a bibliography.

Over the course of 30+ years Dr. William P. Kalosieh has counseled numerous individuals, families and couples in the throes of a crisis whether part of normal human development or unexpected and causing the normal balance of routine daily life to falter. Counseling sessions typically favor the emotional over the rational and often preclude the therapist from educating the client about the issue, problem, concern that brought him/her to therapy. In this compendium of articles Dr. Kalosieh writes about not only the issues and concerns he frequently encountered in his practice but also about some notions that have fascinated him for many years. The articles range from personal, emotional development to interpersonal dynamics both normal and abnormal or healthy and unhealthy. The sequence is merely conventional and the reader is at liberty to select a topic or concern he/she wishes to explore. The author does not present a system to interventions based upon his own theory of personality and marriage, rather he utilizes the techniques, strategies and theories of highly regarded experts in various fields of psychotherapy. The articles are intended to be above all helpful to individuals, couples and families as they face the challenge of maturity, communication and raising a family. Promoting a peaceful, harmonious village requires peace of mind and heart in the individuals.

Judy's my mom. It's an understatement to say she's a bit of a hippy. I mean who else but a New Ager calls their baby 'Philosophy Rainbow'? I try to go by 'Sophie'. Sophie and Calliope have never been to school. Their mum ran away from home when she was seventeen to join the New Age movement and the girls were raised in a series of ashrams, communes and impromptu raves. When Sophie gets ill, they return to Birmingham - a strange new world where meditation and tree-hugging are replaced with maths homework and TV and the grandmother they have never met. And it's against this bewildering new backdrop - the normality she's always longed for - that Sophie must come to terms with her mortality. Lucy Caldwell's Notes to Future Self opened at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in February 2011.

An engrossing look at the cultural consequences of technological change and globalization Space radar, infrared photography, carbon dating, DNA analysis, microfilm, digital data bases-we have better technology than ever for studying and preserving the past. And yet the by-products of technology threaten to destroy--in one or two generations--monuments, works of art, and ways of life that have survived thousands of years of hardship and war. This paradox is central to our age. We use the Internet to access and assess infinite amounts of information--but understand less and less of its historical context. Globalization may eventually benefit countries around the world; it will also, almost certainly, lead to the disappearance of hundreds of regional dialects, languages, and whole societies. In The Future of the Past, Alexander Stille takes us on a tour of the past as it exists today and weighs its prospects for tomorrow, from China to Somalia to Washington, D.C. Through incisive portraits of their protagonists, he describes high-tech struggles to save the Great Sphinx and the Ganges; efforts to preserve Latin within the Vatican; the digital glut inside the National Archives, which may have lost more information in the information age than ever before; an oral culture threatened by a "new" technology: writing itself. Wherever it takes him, Stille explores not just the past, but our ideas about the past, how they are changing--and how they will have to change if our past is to have a future.
