Sadistic serial killer couple David and Catherine Birnie claimed the lives of four young Perth women in a brutal rape and murder spree. But there was a fifth victim - a young woman whose unlikely escape from the killers' lair brought their reign of terror to an end, and who has remained silent about her ordeal for thirty years since. This is her story. Kate Moir was a bright and pretty eighteen-year-old when she was snatched off the street by David and Catherine Birnie, a cold, callous and deadly husband and wife team who had viciously raped and murdered at least four other women in Perth. But Kate wasn't going to go without a fight. Taken to their home, raped and held at knifepoint, Kate never stopped calculating the odds of her survival and doing everything she could to ensure she left evidence at the house. She escaped the following morning. It is extremely rare, almost unheard of, for a person to escape from the clutches of a serial killers once they have been marked for death. Serial killers are rarely caught and often their crimes remain unsolved or, alternately, are only discovered after their death. Having remained silent about being 'the fifth woman' for thirty years, and with the possibility of release for Catherine Birnie looming, Kate Moir is finally ready to tell her story.

Gillian Butler moved away from Edinburgh 50 years ago, or so her friends thought. When her murdered body is found, they must try to remember who last saw her alive. Perhaps it was Isabel, now a novelist and people-tracer, or the twice widowed Hannah, or the psychiatrist, Dr Fidelis Berlin, an expert on child abuse, abandonment, abduction and adoption, who had herself been an unidentified infant rescued from Nazi Germany and now hopes to discover her real name at last. Fidelis Berlin and other characters from Mann's earlier books reappear in this tense, gripping tale of vengeance, family ties and the mystery of identity.

This is not a story about love. There is no happy ending. There is only darkness, and the struggle to avoid being consumed by that darkness. This is a story about survival. I was seventeen years old the first time I died. When I was first taken, I thought that my ending had arrived, a smirk on his mouth and bloodlust alight in his beautiful eyes. I waited to die, to be torn apart by sharp teeth and vicious hands. And I did die. I just didn't expect to wake up afterward. * WALKING DEAD GIRL is the first book in the VAMPIRELAND series *

Jodee originally wrote Walking in a Dead Girl's Shoes as her Senior Thesis-the final step before attaining her BA in Creative Writing from EckerdCollege. This collection of poetry represents a variety of stylistic choices. Her Thesis Committee commented that some of the poems were reminiscent of Sylvia Plath and Jack Kerouac. Like most authors, a good deal of the poetry was based on actual events. Therefore, the collection has a unique and original flare. Aside from writing poetry, short stories, personal essays, and one-act plays, Ms. Buckley has been a lyricist, guitarist, singer/songwriter and actress since age 12, and has written, and recorded numerous songs-most of which fall into the Alternative Rock genre. Raised in suburban Detroit, she moved to Boston to attend EmersonCollege in 1981 where she studied theatre arts. She is also the published author of a fairy tale for young adults entitled Bjorn's Magical Marching Band and a short story which appeared in a compilation called The Final Goodbye to Poison Paul. You can expect many other genres to be covered by this eclectic author who claims, "My thing is not to have a thing." That way, she can chose to write whatever captures her fancy at any given time. Her primary mission as a writer is to help her readers to gain insight into their own plights as well as to learn how to walk in another's' shoes. This collection of poetry focuses largely on this topic.

In Girl Walking Backwards, Skye wants what all teenagers want--to survive high school. She lives in Southern California, though, which is making that difficult. Her mother has fallen victim to the pseudo-New Age culture and insists on dragging her to consciousness-raising workshops and hypnotists. As if this weren't difficult enough, Skye falls in love with Jessica, a troubled gothic punk girl who cuts herself regularly with sharp objects. When she finds her boyfriend having sex with Jessica in a bathroom stall at a rave, her romantic illusions collapse and she has to face the fact that she's been running away from her mother's insanity. Right when things look their worst though, Skye is helped by Mol, a pagan who becomes her true friend, and Lorri, a graceful volleyball player with whom she finds real love. From them she learns how to feel authentic emotions in a culture of poseurs and New Age charlatans. In this anti-coming-of-age novel by Bett Williams, where growing up is irrelevant, this is the best gift of all.
