At the ten year anniversary of the Global Game Jam] we collected community provided stories and images from around the globe. We simply asked our community to share their experiences, which we have arranged chronologically for our readers. Some of the stories are funny, some demonstrate perseverance, and yet others just remind us how wonderful the Global Game Jam has become. The stories are included in the original language of the author, with English translation, and provided without major editing. They share the tone and spirit of the authorÕs own experience. The Global Game Jam] experiment started 10 years ago and it has grown from 1,650 participants in 2009 to the more than 42,000 people who participated in 2018. This growth and successes comes from the tapestry of individual efforts that makes each year bigger and better than the previous. Much like a Global Game Jam, this book was created by pooling the time and effort of people all over the world.

The 2019/2020 academic year marks the 20th anniversary of the ETC. To celebrate, we’ve reached out to ETC alumni to capture their stories. We talked with alums about their experiences at the ETC, how it helped shape their work and career after they left, and how it has impacted the work they have done, and are doing. As a professional degree, the proof of ETC’s continued success is our amazing alumni, and we’ve tried to get a nice mix across the years and industries to help highlight the range of their work and accomplishments. This book captures twenty interviews, and we plan to continue talking with alumni to help share their stories.

Introduction To Game Analysis

Game analysis allows us to understand games better, providing insight into the player-game relationship, the construction of the game, and its sociocultural relevance. As the field of game studies grows, videogame writing is evolving from the mere evaluation of gameplay, graphics, sound, and replayablity, to more reflective writing that manages to convey the complexity of a game and the way it is played in a cultural context. Introduction to Game Analysis serves as an accessible guide to analyzing games using strategies borrowed from textual analysis. Clara Fernández-Vara’s concise primer provides instruction on the basic building blocks of game analysis—examination of context, content and reception, and formal qualities—as well as the vocabulary necessary for talking about videogames' distinguishing characteristics. Examples are drawn from a range of games, both digital and non-digital—from Bioshock and World of Warcraft to Monopoly—and the book provides a variety of exercises and sample analyses, as well as a comprehensive ludography and glossary.

"Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness" - for almost three centuries, America's shores have beckoned the world with those ear-tingling words to find a land like none other, where dreams really do come true and miracles happen every day in the atmosphere of freedom. The virtues of courage, hard work, and devotion to a cause have almost always been rewarded with a happily-ever-after in America, but in recent years, the American Dream has become a nightmare of deferred hopes and frustrated efforts. Today, millions remain persistently unemployed. An entire generation is choosing to live alone and unmarried. The costs of education, housing, and medical care are skyrocketing, and even though people are making more money than ever before, no one seems to have enough money for anything. China is overtaking the United States as an industrial and economic leader, while Russia is becoming more hostile and dangerous to the West. Just what happened to America's great future? The youngest and last of Generation X grew up with President Ronald Reagan's promise of a future America "unafraid, unashamed, and unsurpassed" only to encounter endless bloody wars, a collapsing palace economy with scarce rewards for a connected few, and a future of loneliness with true love just around the corner but always out of reach. American Kiss is a collection of short fiction stories that takes readers on a American journey from the mid-1990s to the distant future, through the growing pains of young, unrequited love and rejection to a bleak, dystopian future where only a lone American hero can save the galaxy. Can a third party, libertarian candidate ever become the future President of the United States of America? What would happen if Congress randomly selected an ordinary voter to deliver the State of the Union in place of the president, and what would America hear? What does the future hold for America's Asian-American population? Has the Global War on Terror and the rise of unmanned drones gone too far? Is war a video game? Does America even exist in the distant future? Can one man's love for the woman of his dreams overcome the fierce jealousy of wicked men, a new world order gone mad, and a future ruled by lies? In American Kiss, readers face these questions and more. Internationally renowned Hawaii political columnist and profiler Dr. Danny de Gracia brings in his debut novel a smart, sexy, and romantic romp through the essence of the American experience that touches the human soul and challenges the conscience with questions about our modern West. Zany, satirical, and jam-packed with allegorical editorials, American Kiss is the anthem novel for America's remnant of true believers in the American Dream - and an invitation to change the world we know for the planet we were promised.
