Producing an extraordinary body of work throughout his impressive forty year career, Haim Steinbach has redefined the status of the object in art through his continued investigation into what constitutes art objects and the ways in which they are displayed. Presented in once again the world is flat, were major new installations created for the Serpentine Gallery, reconfigured historical installations and a number of grid-based paintings from the early 1970s. 00Steinbach’s interest in display extends to the environments in which objects are placed, and thus photographs, images, models and recreations of interiors are prevalent throughout the exhibition. He often positions his objects within larger architectural installations resembling domestic interiors. Several of these historical installations have been reconceived within the exhibition, where sheets of wallpaper sit on studded walls. These walls serve to guide the viewers’ navigation through the galleries and highlight the architectural qualities of the space.00Exhibition: Serpentine Gallery, London, UK (05.03-05.05.2015).

This timely volume discusses the experimental documentary projects of some of the most significant artists working in the world today: Hito Steyerl, Joachim Koester, Tacita Dean, Matthew Buckingham, Zoe Leonard, Jean-Luc Moulène, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Jon Thomson and Alison Craighead, and Anri Sala. Their films, videos, and photographic series address failed utopian experiments and counter-hegemonic social practices. This study illustrates the political significance of these artistic practices and critically contributes to the debate on the conditions of utopian thinking in late-capitalist society, arguing that contemporary artists' interest in the past is the result of a shift within the temporal organization of the utopian imagination from its futuristic pole toward remembrance. The book therefore provides one of the first critical examinations of the recent turn toward documentary in the field of contemporary art.

"Who doesn't remember Carmecita, Papalla and Pippo? These are some of the most famous characters created by Armando Testa, Italy's most important graphic designer." "Testa explored the most diverse languages of visual communication, invented new ones, and made enormously innovative contributions to television advertising." "This book brings together many of Testa's most important creations in a selection that documents his production from his earliest to his last works, including posters and sketches from the 1940s and 1950s, book and magazine illustrations and covers, and photographic advertisements from the 1960s and 1970s." "It also documents the projects unhindered by the strict imperatives of advertising, such as the posters and logos he created during the 1980s for institutions, social causes and cultural events." "A detailed bio-bibliography can be found at the end. In addition to critical texts and writings by various artists, the volume also includes the aesthetic views formulated by Testa, a man unanimously considered the founder of modern Italian advertising."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. An American artist of Brazilian origin, Vik Muniz has come to stand out as one of the most articulate and innovative artists of his generation, equally at home working with images of chocolate sauce, spaghetti marinara, or the detritus of hole punchers. In doing so, he has carved out a unique niche within contemporary photography: one of trickster and philosopher as well as creator of compelling and delightful images. Reflex: A Vik Muniz Primer is a privileged, guided tour of the contents of Muniz's pyrotechnic imagination. The collection of essays Muniz contributes walks us through each of his major series, and unveils the thinking and historical influences behind each image.
