A beautiful, fully updated edition of the popular and beloved New Jerusalem Bible, which has sold over half a million copies. The Revised New Jerusalem Bible presents anew the scholarship, character, and clarity of the 1966 Jerusalem Bible (the first modern English version) and the 1985 New Jerusalem Bible. It is a Bible that prioritizes: • a bold, rich language as suitable for reading out loud as for studying in silence, so that “the message might be fully proclaimed” (2 Timothy 4:17) • accurate translation of the original scriptures rather than the “dynamic equivalence” of some other modern versions • assurance that the message of the Bible is directed to men and women equally, despite the inbuilt bias of the English language This comprehensive Study Edition is the world’s first presentation of the full Revised New Jerusalem Bible, complete with study notes, cross-references, and book introductions. It has been prepared and edited for a modern readership by Dom Henry Wansbrough, OSB, who was general editor of the New Jerusalem Bible. Other features include: • The book of Psalms is based on the text of the 2010 translation of The Revised Grail Psalms. • Ancient systems of measure and time have been replaced by modern, metric equivalents. • A table of the notes provides explanations of the key words, themes, and ideas in the Bible’s major footnotes. • A chronological table, an index of persons, and eight pages of full-color maps provide historical context. For all who are discovering the mysteries contained in Scripture for the first time and for those coming to this holy book for regular inspiration, only a clear, understandable Bible translation will do. The Revised New Jerusalem Bible is the one Christians the world over can trust.

** £9.99 introductory price for the first 3 months (£12.99 thereafter) **A Bible for study and proclamation. The Revised New Jerusalem Bible presents anew the scholarship, character and clarity of the 1966 Jerusalem Bible (the first modern English version) and the 1985 New Jerusalem Bible. It is a Bible that prioritises accuracy of translation and richness of tone, written that 'the message might be fully proclaimed' (2 Ti 4:17).This volume presents the full New Testament and the Psalms, and a comprehensive set of study notes, cross-references and book introductions.'Clear read' style. The biblical scriptures were written to be proclaimed, so the RNJB uses linguistic style and speech patterns best suited for being read out loud.Formal equivalence. The language, concepts and imagery of the original scriptures are presented more accurately by the RNJB than the colloquial approach of many other modern translations.Gender inclusion. The message of the Bible is for all people, so care has been taken to avoid traditional male bias of the English language, while remaining faithful to the meaning of the original scriptures.Revised Grail Psalter. The book of Psalms is based on the text of the 2010 translation of The Revised Grail Psalms.Modern measurements. Ancient systems of measuring and timing have been replaced by modern, metric equivalents.Comprehensive study notes. The notes, cross-references and book introductions of the JB and NJB are replaced in the RNJB by new materials which reflect the fruit of the most up-to-date and ecumenical scholarship. The Revised New Jerusalem Bible has been prepared and edited by The Revd Henry Wansbrough OSB, who was previously General Editor of the New Jerusalem Bible.

What are archaeologists and biblical scholars saying about Jerusalem? This volume includes the most up-to-date cross-disciplinary assessment of Biblical Jerusalem (ca. 2000-586 B.C.E.) that represents the views of biblical historians, archaeologists, Assyriologists, and Egyptologists. The archaeological articles both summarize and critique previous theories as well as present previously unpublished archaeological data regarding the highly contested interpretations of First Temple Period Jerusalem. The interpretative essays ask the question, "Can there be any dialogue between archaeologists and biblical scholars in the absence of consensus?" The essays give a clear "yes" to this question, and provide suggestions for how archaeology and biblical studies can and should be in conversation. This book will appeal to advanced scholars, nonspecialists in biblical studies, and lay audiences who are interested in the most recent theories on Jerusalem. The volume will be especially useful as a supplemental textbook for graduate and undergraduate courses on biblical history.

The Jerusalem Bible is a re-translation of all of the original texts of the Bible from Hebrew into modern English. "When it comes to Bible translations, readability and reliability are what count; and on both counts, the original JERUSALEM BIBLE stands alone. A product of the age of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), THE JERUSALEM BIBLE (published in 1966) was the first truly modern Bible for Catholics. Using definitive original language texts such as the Dead Sea Scrolls, biblical scholars of L'Ecole Biblique in Jerusalem produced a meticulously accurate, wonderfully readable French translation of the complete canon of Scripture (La Bible de Jerusalem). From this French original came the English edition, edited by renowned Bible scholar Alexander Jones." This book was originally published as a one-volume work. In order to reprint it in soft cover, it has been necessary to divide it into three volumes. This is the first volume, which covers The Pentateuch, the five books attributed to Moses, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, and the Historical Books, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, Samuel I, Samuel II, Kings I, Kings II, Chronicles I, Chronicles II, Ezra, Nehemiah, Tobit, Judith, Esther, and 1 and 2 Maccabees. Volume Two will cover the Wisdom Books through the Minor Prophets. Volume Three will be the New Testament."

Keter Yerushalayim, the Jerusalem Crown, is the first edition of the Aleppo Codex as a printed Bible. This codex is the oldest known complete manuscript of the Hebrew Bible. The famous grammarian and scribe Aaron ben Asher inserted the vocalization signs, accentuation marks and the Masorah. Because he also proofread the manuscript several times over, it became the authoritative text due to its accepted accuracy. After a long odyssey the codex found its way to Jerusalem in 1958, with unfortunately a major portion missing. In 1976 a facsimile of the manuscript was published and inspired the book edition closely resembling the original text. Thanks to the painstaking work of the renowned Scholar Rabbi Mordechai Breuer, the lost parts - almost the entire Pentateuch - could be reconstructed. To emulate the original, the Jerusalem Crown is laid out in three columns and employs a unique typeface re-creating the calligraphy of the Aleppo Codex. The census for the chapters and verses as well as the names of the weekly torah portions and their divisions for the synagogal reading were added. A short appendix explains the principles of the text recreation and lists the deviations from the standard Leningrad Codex. Dr. Mordechai Glatzer, a globally recognized expert in the history of printing, edited the companion volume. It contains contributions on various aspects of the manuscript's significance and an in-depth description of its history. Notably, Dr. Yosef Ofer's introduction to the Masorah clarifies from where the codex's authority stems and why its text can be regarded as nearly error free. The documentation folder of the Keter Yerushalayim contains an original set of pages, the Book of Ruth, and the original decorative front page with its gold printed title as a sample booklet, complete with an embossed cover of heavy crimson paper. There is also a sample chapter of the companion volume included in the set which is presented in a gold-embossed dark-blue folder of raw silk. The charge for the documentation kit will be credited if a copy of the numbered Special Edition is ordered subsequently.
